Due to current rapid development of industry and the increased volume of vehicular traffic, the incidence of extremity injuries has also correspondingly increased.
After Taylor(1975) introduced the free vascularized fibular qraft the procedure has become increasingly used in the treatment of bridging long bone defects following trauma, infection, tumor resection as well as congenital anomalies.
We, the authors used the vascularized fibular qraft in the following cases ; congenital pseudoarthrosis of the tibia, two cases of posttraumatic tibial bone defect, and a case of post traumatic defect of the humerus. Bone union was a problem in the case of the pseudoarthrosis, but we believe the vascularized fibular qraft is a valuable and effective method of treatment in such cases as congenital pseudoarthrosis, upper and lower extremity long bone defects as well as osteomyelitis where bone reconstruction is warranted.
